Important announcements affecting study in Canada and applications for study permits

Currently (as of May 3rd, 2020) the VFS office in Dubai remains closed for the purpose of biometrics collection for Canada. You can monitor developments here: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/are/en/can.

Study_In_CanadaAs of May 3rd, 2020 only those students who had a study permit issued on or before March 18, 2020 are entitled to travel to Canada. We expect that to change. You can monitor developments here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors-foreign-workers-students.html

IELTS Academic or other accepted test remains a requirement and you should take it as soon as testing centres reopen. We suggest you book now. Interim online tests may help you progress your application. You can monitor developments here: https://www.britishcouncil.ae/en/exam/ielts/dates-locations

Our advice:

If you wish to study in Canada starting in the fall of 2020 it is already quite late to be applying for an acceptance to a university or college. However, some programs may still be open. You may not get into the program of your dreams at this point but it may be possible to transfer in later years.

If you already have an acceptance to a Canadian university or college do not delay in applying for a study permit even though certain documents may be difficult to obtain.  IRCC is still processing applications with missing documents if those documents are missing due to Covid-19 measures.

We believe that applications must demonstrate very strong financials and study plans. IRCC knows that students may face difficulty finding part-time work in Canada under current conditions. The average cost of tuition for international students is $17,000CAD annually and many programs cost $24,000CAD or more annually. On top of that you must have at least $10,000CAD already available for living expenses, and an amount for miscellaneous expenses. It should also be clear to IRCC how you will be able to pay for subsequent years.

Please be careful consumers of advice about study in Canada. Only RCICs, RISIAs and Canadian lawyers are qualified to give immigration advice. An educational consultant without one of those designations is not.

Students already in Canada should check the expiry dates on 3 documents: your passport, your temporary resident visa (the stamp in your passport) and your study permit (which you obtained after entering Canada). If anything needs to be renewed, check with a qualified advisor. If taking advice from the international students’ office of your college or university, confirm that advice with an RCIC or RISIA on staff or seek independent advice. Remember an educational consultant or recruiter is not qualified to give immigration advice unless they are also an RCIC or RISIA.

Our services:

We can provide assistance in obtaining letters of acceptance to those Fall 2020 programs that remain open for the next couple of weeks only. Our usual fee is 3000 dirhams.

We provide comprehensive services for study permit applications by two qualified Registered Canadian Immigration Consultants. We strongly suggest you approach us no later than June 1st even if you have missing documents. Our usual fee is 3000 dirhams, 2500 dirhams if you’ve used our services for a letter of acceptance.

If your study permit application for Canada was refused, you can provide us with a copy of the refusal letter and we will advise you of your options.

We also provide assistance with letters of acceptance to select UK, Netherlands and German universities. This can be a useful backup plan as refusals of study permits to Canada are common.
