Canada’s most in-demand jobs for 2019

Canada’s economy is in an excellent position to accept newcomers! With a record low unemployment rate, there are many job opportunities. As the working population in Canada gets older, more jobs are becoming available with not enough skilled young people to fill them.
Jobs_in_Canada Employment data taken from Randstad has outlined some of the employment fields and jobs that will be most in-demand this year. As we have seen before, sectors such as IT, engineering, skilled trades and logistics are at the top of the list of most in-demand sectors in 2019.

Jobs in Tech

Jobs in technology, such as website developers, coders, and jobs in AI, are growing quickly in Canada. IT was the fastest growing sector in 2018, and Canadian cities are increasingly becoming the homes for major technology companies. The city of Toronto is Canada’s most popular destination for newcomers, and is also the fastest growing tech center in North America. The top IT titles for 2019 are…
  1. Developer/Programmer
  2. System Administrator
  3. IT Project Manager
  4. Quality Assurance Analyst
  5. Data Analyst
As well, the top ten jobs that are emerging in 2019 are almost exclusively in the field of tech. Jobs like blockchain developers, AI researchers and automation engineers are brand new to Canadian markets, and competition to bring in top talent to fill these jobs is high.

Jobs in Engineering

While jobs in engineering increase, candidates to fill these jobs are not growing at the same pace. With an engineering certification, job prospects in Canada are excellent. Here are the top five engineering jobs in 2019…
  1. Electrical Engineer
  2. Mechanical Engineer
  3. Project Engineer
  4. Civil Engineering Technician
  5. Manufacturing Engineer

Jobs in Manufacturing

Jobs in skilled trades and manufacturing are not always fulfilled by local talent, and attracting skilled tradespeople is a priority for many communities in Canada! The top manufacturing jobs needed in 2019 will be…
  1. Welder
  2. Production Supervisor
  3. General Labourer
  4. Electrician
  5. CNC Machinist

Jobs in Logistics

Skilled logistics workers are necessary to the process of sorting, organizing and moving goods. They are central to the buying process, and as jobs in e-commerce grow in Canada, logistics workers are increasingly needed. The top five jobs for logistics workers in 2019 are…
  1. Truck Driver
  2. Forklift Operator
  3. Cashier
  4. Warehouse Worker
  5. Material Handler
It’s important to acknowledge, as Canada’s majority working population gets older, jobs in nursing are naturally in demand across the country. Registered nurses are highly sought after, and some Canadian provinces are designing their own immigration streams specifically to attract these workers. If you are a registered nurse interested in working in Canada, the Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry category could be for you!
The push to fill job vacancy is one of many motivating factors for yearly increases in Canada’s immigration targets. With jobs in abundance, a low unemployment rate, more funding towards newcomer services, and the goal to welcome over one million immigrants by 2021, now is the right time for Canadian immigration!
